President’s Newsletter: August 2024

Dear BTS Members,

In my last Newsletter in June, I said I would next write to you in September but I wanted to share two new and exciting news items with you.
Firstly, I am delighted to announce that our Immediate Past President, Professor Brian Lake, has been awarded the prestigious Toxicology Forum George H. Scott Memorial Award. Brian received the Award in person at the recent Toxicology Forum meeting in Virginia. The Award honours an individual in the field of toxicology who has demonstrated an outstanding role in developing and applying the science of toxicology. I’m sure you will all agree that Brian is fully deserving of this international recognition of his research. You can find out more about the Award and see a list of past winners here.

Secondly, I wanted to let you know that the BTS is currently preparing a bid to host the EUROTOX 2029 Congress. The BTS last hosted a EUROTOX Congress meeting in 2014 when it was held in Edinburgh. An Advisory Group and Working Team have been established, chaired by myself, to work on the proposal. The deadline for submission of our bid is the end of January 2025. EUROTOX will announce the successful bid at their 2025 Annual Congress being held in Athens in September 2025. I will keep you updated on our progress later in the year.

Finally, a reminder that next year’s Annual Congress will again be held at The Spaces at the Spine in Liverpool from Wednesday to Friday, April 2nd to the 4th. There will be a few changes to the format of the meeting in response to your feedback and these will be announced in due course.

Best wishes

Phil
