Animal Research: The British Toxicology Society’s Position
The British Toxicology Society is proud to join over 100 signatory in support of the Concordat on Openness in Animal Research in the UK.
The British Toxicology Society like all other signatories – which include universities, charities and research councils –promises to fulfil four commitments outlined in the Concordat which are:
- Commitment 1: We will be clear about when, how and why we use animals in research.
- Commitment 2: We will enhance our communications with the media and the public about our research using animals.
- Commitment 3: We will be proactive in providing opportunities for the public to find out about research using animals.
- Commitment 4: We will report on progress annually and share our experiences.
The British Toxicology Society supports the world-leading research undertaken by its members. Animal research forms a proportion of the work that our members perform and is vital both to the research that underpins the science of toxicology and contributes to assessment of the risk of adverse effects to human and animal health and our environment.
The British Toxicology Society will pledge to offer the public more information about studies involving animals.
