BelTox Advanced Toxicology Course on Endocrine Disruption

Event Date: October 13th 08:10 - 13th 17:10 2016

Website: www.BelTox.be

This year, BelTox will organize an advanced toxicology course on endocrine disruption. It is the objective of this course to bring professionals in (eco)toxicology and risk assessment up to speed with the current experimental practices and most recent guidelines and regulations in regards the assessment of chemicals of their potential to disrupt the endocrine system in humans and organisms in the environment. The course will exist of 2 parts: a morning session with presentations and an afternoon session with practical exercises to apply the knowledge acquired in the morning. The morning session will start with a short introduction with definitions on hormones (Mark Martens, MMTA) followed by a presentation on the clinical aspects of endocrine disruption (Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, Université de Liège). The rest of the morning session will be devoted to experimental research with presentations on in vitro testing (Hilda Witters, VITO), in vivo toxicology testing (Marie-Noëlle Blaude, WIV-ISP), in vivo ecotoxicology testing (Francesca Tencalla, ToxMinds) and interpretation of study results with attention to low dose effects and non-monotonous dose-effect relationships (Peter Hoet, KULeuven and Thomas Petry, ToxMinds). The afternoon session will start with an overview of the current European regulations on endocrine disruption with attention to the classification and labeling of endocrine disruptors (Ruth Moeller, LIST) followed by a practical exercise. This exercise will consist of a toxicology and an ecotoxicology session. The audience will be split up in small working groups and given a study done on a real compound which will have to be analyzed. It is the intention that the participants put themselves in the position of a regulatory or industrial toxicologist and have to ask for additional studies which will then be distributed until a full package for evaluation is obtained. The working groups will then have to present and defend their conclusion in a plenary meeting. The course will take place at WIV-ISP, Rue Juliette Wytsmanstraat 14, 1050 Brussels, Belgium on October 13th, 2016 from 8:30 to 17:30 hrs.

The registration fee is 250 euros for BelTox members and 400 euros for non-members and includes the seminar, presentations, handouts, lunch and coffee breaks.

You can find the detailed programme on www.BelTox.be, where you can register online.

We are looking forward to welcoming you on October 13th.
